Before you start
- Replacement heads matched to your exact printer if you intend to fit new ones.
- A protected surface for the removed heads and possible ink drips.
Access the black and colour printheads
Professor Printer’s method brings the parked carriage into the central opening, releases the printhead cover and removes the heads by pressing their corners down and towards you. Refitting uses the same slots, with the ink inlets facing upwards.
The video removes and reinstalls the existing heads while explaining how to prepare replacements.
Step 1:Restart and hold the carriage at the central opening
Press Power to turn the printer off. Wait until the blinking stops and it has fully shut down. Turn it back on and listen for the carriage moving during startup.
Open the front when you hear movement. The presenter holds the moving carriage with his fingers until it stops trying to move, leaving it in the middle opening. That position provides the clearance needed to slide out the heads.
Step 2:Open the blue cover release and remove the heads
Push down the blue release to open the printhead cover. Press down on a corner of the black head and bring it towards you. Repeat for the colour head if you are removing both.
Keep track of each head’s original slot. The outlet is on the underside and the ink inlet is at the top; handle the heads upright and protect the surface below from drips. The presenter spills some ink during the demonstration.
Step 3:Remove only the replacement’s transport protection
For a new head, the presenter describes removing the bright-orange protective pieces and the removable protective film over the bottom ink outlet. He points out that another part may resemble a sticker but belongs to the head. Do not peel a permanent component off because it looks similar to packaging.
Step 4:Refit each head with its inlet facing upwards
Keep the upper inlet facing upwards. Line the head up straight and put it into the slot loosely. The presenter braces with a finger and pushes with his thumb until it clicks. Repeat for the second head, keeping black and colour in their original slots.
Lower and close the printhead cover, then close the front of the printer.
Step 5:Clear the error caused by holding the carriage
The source identifies the remaining E3 as the carriage-jam error created by stopping it manually. Press X/Cancel. The presenter reports that the carriage moves back to the left and is no longer stuck in the access position.
