A little preparation

Before you start

  • The replacement cartridge specified for your exact model and region.
  • The printer switched on, with enough space to raise its cartridge access door.

Check the cartridge before opening the printer

Use a cartridge specified for your exact printer and country. HP’s replacement instructions cover the 8120/8130 families, and HP’s accompanying video explicitly lists both 8124e and 8135e. Cartridge labels shown in the owner’s footage are not a universal buying guide for every OfficeJet.

The additional identification video shows the supply-number label inside the cartridge area. Read your own label and compare it with HP’s current supply information for your exact model and country; do not use the example number as a universal recommendation.

Step 1:Open both access doors and wait for the carriage

Leave the printer powered on. Use the recess at the right edge to open the front door, then lift the cartridge access door using its internal handle. Let the carriage finish moving before reaching inside. The raised access door stays open while you work.

Step 2:Release the cartridge you are replacing

Press the small tab at the front of that cartridge. It releases upward so you can lift it out of its slot. Remove the cartridge you intend to replace; there is no need to take out the others.

Step 3:Remove the replacement’s protective packaging

Unwrap the replacement using its pull strip and remove the orange protective cap as directed on its packaging. The presenter demonstrates the packaging with a previously opened cartridge; a sealed replacement may feel different. Check the packaging instructions rather than forcing a part that does not match the video.

Step 4:Match the color slot and click the cartridge into place

Match the cartridge’s color-coded letter to the letter beside its slot. Put its leading end into the slot first, then lower and press the rear until it clicks securely into place. The black slot is wider; align the cartridge in its intended position rather than using the extra space as a guide.

The cartridge should sit firmly after the click. If it remains loose, lift it out using the release tab, check its orientation and number, then try again without forcing it.

Step 5:Close the doors and check the printer’s response

Lower the cartridge access door gently and close the front door. Let the printer check the cartridges. If it asks for alignment, follow the displayed alignment instructions using plain white paper. The video explains that an alignment request can follow new cartridge installation; it does not demonstrate a newly sealed cartridge or guarantee that every replacement produces that prompt.

A little extra help

Questions & troubleshooting

The cartridge will not click into place.

Check the exact cartridge number and its color-coded slot. The video inserts the leading end before pressing down the rear; do not force the cartridge sideways or into a different color’s slot.

Can I buy the cartridge number shown in the video?

Only if it is specified for your own printer and region. HP’s official replacement page lists different regional cartridge numbers, so the source printer’s number alone is not sufficient.
