A little preparation

Before you start

  • The printer and Mac connected to the same home network.

Start with the printer and Mac on the same network

Connect the OfficeJet to the same home network as the Mac before adding it. If that connection already works, skip the video’s network-reset and reconnection sequence. Resetting is not required just to add another computer.

If you need to join a new network, use the printer’s Menu → Settings → Network → Wi-Fi → Wi-Fi Setup Wizard. Use the network password, confirm the connection and check its network details. Disconnect Ethernet if you intend to use Wi-Fi.

Step 1:Add the printer in macOS

Open System Settings → Printers & Scanners and choose Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax. Select the discovered OfficeJet that matches your printer and choose Add. The source reaches the same add-printer dialog through the macOS Print Center plus control; the wording can differ by macOS release.

Wait for macOS to finish adding it. If an available AirPrint option is selected automatically, follow the add dialog. Do not remove an already working printer entry merely to repeat the video.

Step 2:If adding the printer fails, recheck its connection

The source gets an add-printer error after the wireless connection drops. It restarts the printer, waits for a steady wireless connection and then successfully adds it. For your device, check its current network state before retrying.

Use the Power button for a normal shutdown and allow it to finish. Do not restart during a firmware update. If discovery still fails, verify the Mac and printer are on the same network instead of repeatedly adding duplicate entries.

Step 3:Optionally add the same printer in the HP app

Download the official HP app from HP’s setup instructions or its App Store listing. Open it, choose Add device and choose an available printer that is already on the network. Select your OfficeJet from the list.

This gives access to the app’s available printer controls. The source shows both macOS registration and HP app discovery; it does not show a completed document print or a saved scan.

Step 4:Check the printer in a document’s print dialog

Open a small document and choose File → Print. Select the newly added OfficeJet, check the paper and job settings and send a test page. Confirm the sheet at the printer. A printer listed in the dialog is a useful setup check, but the physical page confirms that the job completed.
