Separate the preference from an installed update

The source changes the automatic-update setting, but the printer is not fully connected to the Internet and no installation finishes. Choosing a preference is not evidence that the firmware has been updated.

A steady Wi-Fi light indicates a wireless connection; it does not prove Internet access. Resolve any Internet unavailable message before expecting the printer to download an update.

Step 1:Open Auto Update Options

On the touchscreen open Menu → Settings → Firmware Update → Auto Update Options. HP’s manual places Settings under Utilities. Read the displayed information, scroll to the bottom and choose Next.

Step 2:Choose the behavior you want

Auto Update checks for and installs new firmware automatically. Notify When Available checks and alerts you when an update is available. The manual also lists Do Not Check, which disables automatic checks; availability can depend on your services.

Select the available option you intend to use and confirm any displayed notice. The source selects Auto Update. It is a preference change, not an immediate-update confirmation.

Step 3:Check the setting and allow an actual update to finish

Return to the update area to confirm the selected preference. If the printer reports an update is installing, leave it powered and connected until the process finishes. Do not unplug it because a timer or progress screen looks slow.

HP also documents a manual check through the printer’s embedded web server under General → Firmware Update → Check for Update. This is a separate manufacturer-documented route, not a completed installation demonstrated in the video. Use the printer’s actual update status to confirm what happened.
