Before you start
- Your home Wi-Fi name and password, and a phone or computer on that same network.
- An ENVY 6100e-series printer with the touchscreen menu shown; initial ink and paper setup completed.
Check the connection before resetting
A changed router name or password requires connecting the printer to the new network. A flashing Wi-Fi light also calls for a connection check, but does not by itself prove that factory defaults must be restored. If the printer already shows the correct network, check discovery on the phone or computer first.
The recordings include an ENVY 6120e and other ENVY 6100e units. HP’s shared user guide confirms the touchscreen procedure used here; the videos’ wider all-ENVY titles are not a compatibility list.
Step 1:Open the Wi-Fi setup wizard
On the printer, open Menu, scroll to Utilities and choose Settings → Network → Wi-Fi. Turn Wi-Fi on if necessary. Choose Wi-Fi Setup Wizard; the recording’s setup screen uses Start. Use Wi-Fi here, rather than Wi-Fi Direct, to join your home router.
Step 2:Choose your network and enter its password
Choose the same network name used by your phone or computer. Enter that router’s Wi-Fi password carefully and confirm with OK or Submit. This is not the printer’s admin PIN or its Wi-Fi Direct password. Wait for the connection result before leaving the screen.
Step 3:Check the result on both devices
Look for the connected status and a steady Wi-Fi light. Menu → Settings → Network → Wi-Fi → View Details lets you check the selected network. Then use the HP app’s Add device or Add existing printer route, or open an iPhone document’s Share → Print printer list.
The source recordings reach a steady light; some also show a temporary Internet unavailable message. If that message persists, check the router’s Internet connection and the displayed error. A steady light alone does not prove Internet access or a completed print job.
If the network list or printer list is empty
Bring the printer closer to the router and confirm the phone or computer is still on the intended home network. Use Refresh on the printer’s network search. If the device remains unresponsive, press Power to turn the printer off, wait for its light and internal movement to stop, then restart it and run the search again. The recordings unplug abruptly; HP specifies shutting down with Power first.
One recording finds the printer in AirPrint after a restart. Treat this as a reported recovery, not a guarantee. If it still cannot be discovered, record the exact message and check HP’s network troubleshooting rather than repeatedly resetting everything.
Step 4:Restore network settings only when needed
If the old connection cannot be replaced through the wizard, open Menu → Tools → Maintenance → Restore Settings → Restore Network Settings, read the confirmation and choose Restore. HP’s reference guide also documents Settings → Network → Restore Network Settings on the relevant screen version.
Return to the Wi-Fi wizard, choose the intended network and reconnect. If HP+ registration is requested after restoring, use the HP account used for the original setup. Once discovery works, print a short document and check the actual page.
Questions & troubleshooting
The printer is connected but is missing in the phone app.
Check that both devices use the same network. Add an existing printer in the HP app. A working Wi-Fi connection and app discovery are separate checks.
The screen asks for a password. Which one?
The network wizard needs the router’s Wi-Fi password. An admin prompt in printer settings can instead require the printer PIN. Read the prompt rather than entering the same code everywhere.
