Before you start
- Physical access to your own ENVY 6100e-series printer.
- The exact prompt asking for a printer administrator password or PIN.
Identify which password the prompt needs
A router’s Wi-Fi password, the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct password and its administrator PIN have different purposes. The source title mixes these terms. Use this article for a printer administrator prompt, such as access to its local web settings; it is not a method for recovering the home router password.
Step 1:Look for the PIN label inside the access area
Lift the cartridge access door using its side grips and find the PIN label inside. Read the value from your own printer and close the access door afterward. Keep fingers out of the moving carriage path; there is no need to remove cartridges or touch their contacts to read the label. HP’s manual identifies this internal label as the default printer PIN location.
Step 2:Use the PIN only for the matching admin prompt
Return to the printer settings prompt and enter that PIN. If the administrator password has already been changed, HP says to use the changed password instead of the printed default. Ask the person who manages the printer if you do not know it.
Keep credentials out of public screenshots
Do not copy the video’s example PIN or publish a photograph of your own label. The video also mentions a rear label and speculates about a report; this article relies on the manufacturer-confirmed internal PIN label and does not claim that a printed network report recovers the admin password.
Questions & troubleshooting
The printed PIN is rejected.
Check that this is an administrator prompt for the correct printer. A changed administrator password replaces the default PIN. Do not use a factory reset as the automatic response to one rejected code.
I need the password to join a DIRECT network.
That is Wi-Fi Direct, not the admin PIN. Open Network → Wi-Fi Direct → View Details on this printer and use its displayed Direct credentials.
