Before you start
- A two-page portrait document and the HP app connected to the printer.
- Plain paper suitable for the exact model and two-sided use. A small test is useful before an important document.
Use plain paper and begin with two pages
This method puts pages 1 and 2 on opposite sides of one sheet. It does not turn on an automatic duplex unit. HP specifies manual duplex for these exact models. If your computer driver offers a supported manual-duplex workflow, follow its reloading prompts; the steps here follow the recorded phone method.
Use compatible plain paper and avoid envelopes, photo/glossy paper and transparencies for two-sided printing. HP’s general duplex guidance excludes paper below 60 or above 105 g/m²; also stay within your own model’s narrower media limits. Do not use curled or torn sheets.
Step 1:Print only page 1
Load the plain paper in the rear input tray with its print side facing up, adjust the width guide without bending the stack, and open the output tray and extension.
In the HP app choose Print Documents and select the file. Open Print Preview, then Page range. Select page 1 only, check paper size and other settings, and print. Wait until the entire sheet exits and the ink is dry enough not to smear.
Step 2:Reload that same sheet for book-style reading
Remove the remaining unused paper from the input tray so you can deliberately feed the printed sheet next. For the rear/top-loading tray, reload with the already printed side facing down and its top edge entering the printer first for book-style page turning. The blank reverse side faces up. Adjust the width guide without bending the sheet.
This orientation comes from HP’s top-loading manual-duplex instructions, replacing the source’s ambiguous “upside down” description. Check it with an unimportant two-page sample if the document orientation differs; do not assume the same edge for a tablet-style flip.
Step 3:Print only page 2
Return to the same document’s Print Preview and Page range. Deselect page 1 and select page 2 only. Confirm the chosen printer and paper settings, then print. Wait for the sheet to finish before picking it up.
Step 4:Check both sides before repeating
Turn the sheet like a book and check that pages 1 and 2 are on opposite sides, upright and in order. The source reaches a two-sided result; it does not establish a reliable automatic ordering process for a long batch. Keep longer jobs to the supported driver workflow or repeat small, checked pairs if that suits the task.
