A little preparation

Before you start

  • Check the full model and local Epson ink listing before opening a bottle. Bottle codes can vary by location; the code shown in a video is not a universal EcoTank supply code.
  • Keep the printer level, powered on but idle. Keep ink away from clothing and surfaces; do not shake vigorously or squeeze the bottles.

Step 1:Open the refill instructions on the printer

  1. Wait until printing and maintenance have finished. From Home, select Maintenance → Fill Ink.
  2. Use the down arrow to read all the safety and usage precautions, then confirm OK.
  3. Close the document cover if it is open, then open the ink-tank cover. Choose only a tank that needs refilling.

Step 2:Match the bottle to the tank

  1. Open the chosen tank’s cap and check its colour label against the bottle. Check the upper fill line through the tank window.
  2. Hold the bottle upright and slowly remove its cap. Avoid touching the exposed top or spilling ink.
  3. Align the bottle’s keyed top with the correct filling port and insert it straight. Do not force a bottle that does not fit.

Step 3:Let the ink stop at the upper line

Watch the actual tank window while the bottle feeds ink. For the correct bottle and port, Epson says the flow stops automatically at the upper line. Do not squeeze the bottle or keep topping up beyond that line.

If ink does not start flowing while the tank is still below the upper line, Epson says to remove and reinsert the bottle. Do not repeat that action once the upper line has been reached: overfilling can cause leaks or damage.

When filling finishes, remove the bottle carefully. Do not leave it inserted. Close the tank cap securely; recap any bottle with ink remaining and store it upright. Repeat for other colours that need ink, always matching each bottle to its own tank.

Step 4:Close the cover and complete the ink-level setting

Close the ink-tank cover firmly. Press the indicated start/continue control and follow the screen to set the ink level. Select every tank you actually refilled. Epson says the displayed estimate does not update from a refill unless this setting is completed.

Step 5:Check the tanks and the saved estimate

Confirm that the tank caps and outer cover are closed and no bottle is left attached. Compare the displayed levels with the tanks you refilled. A changed bar is an estimate, not a sensor measurement of every drop.

The source demonstrates adding black ink and explains repeating the process for the other colours. It does not demonstrate every refill-completion prompt, so the instructions above include Epson’s required level-setting step. Refilling is different from first-time ink charging or printhead cleaning.

A little extra help

Questions & troubleshooting

Will the displayed ink level update automatically?

Not necessarily. Epson requires the level-setting/reset step after a refill. Select all the tanks actually refilled and do not set a partial tank to full.

Does every EcoTank use the bottle code shown in the video?

No. Check the exact printer and local Epson supply listing. The manual says ink codes may vary by location; the video’s family-wide claim does not establish compatibility.

What if the bottle does not empty?

Do not force it to empty. Flow should stop when the tank reaches the upper line. Remove the bottle, recap it and store remaining ink upright; do not overfill the tank.
