Understand what Wi-Fi Direct connects

Wi-Fi Direct connects your phone or computer directly to the printer’s own wireless network. It does not provide an internet connection through the printer and is different from adding the printer to your normal home Wi-Fi.

Download the official HP app and any files you want to print before switching to the printer network. A network reset is not a prerequisite for Wi-Fi Direct; the optional reset shown at the start of the video would unnecessarily remove an existing configuration.

Step 1:Turn on Wi-Fi Direct

On the printer, choose Menu → Settings → Network → Wi-Fi Direct. Turn it on. Read any message about leaving automatic Wi-Fi setup mode and confirm if you intend to use the direct connection.

Open View Details to find this printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network name and password. These are separate from the home-router password and the administrator PIN inside the access door. Use the actual credentials shown by your unit.

Step 2:Join the printer’s network on your phone

Open the iPhone’s Wi-Fi settings. Select the DIRECT network whose name matches the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct details, then enter its password. Wait for the phone to join that network.

A no-internet indication can be expected for this direct connection. It does not mean the router password was wrong; you have joined a local printer network that is not an internet service.

Step 3:Add the available printer in the HP app

Return to the HP app, choose Add device and select the available or existing printer discovered on the current connection. The video shows the OfficeJet appearing and its controls becoming available.

For a print job, select your file, check the chosen printer and settings, and verify the resulting sheet. The source demonstrates discovery and app access; it does not show a completed test print.

Step 4:Return to the home network when finished

When you disconnect from the printer’s DIRECT network, that direct communication path ends. Rejoin your home Wi-Fi to restore its normal internet connection. For routine printing through your router, set the printer up on that same home network instead.
