Check which password the prompt needs

The printer’s browser-based settings can ask for an administrator password. For an unchanged printer, HP identifies the default credential as the PIN printed inside its access door. It is not your router’s Wi-Fi password. If someone changed the administrator password, the printed default PIN does not replace that changed password.

Step 1:Open the front and cartridge access doors

Use the recess at the front right to open the front panel. Lift the cartridge access door by its handle and let it rest in its open position. Keep fingers clear of the cartridge mechanism; you only need to read the label.

Step 2:Read your own printer’s PIN label

Find the label marked with the printer PIN inside the access area. Read the PIN from your own unit and enter it only into the printer’s administrator sign-in prompt. The sample credential in the video belongs to that source printer and should not be copied.

Close both doors after reading the label. Do not post a photograph of the credential when asking for help.

If the printed PIN is rejected

Check that the prompt is for this printer’s administrator account and that you entered the label accurately. If a custom administrator password was set, use that password or ask the person who manages the printer.

Questions & troubleshooting

Can I use my home Wi-Fi password here?

Only if the prompt is actually requesting the home network password. The printer administrator sign-in uses its own credential; the original default is the label PIN unless it has been changed.

Does the network report recover a changed admin password?

That is not established by this source. HP’s manual says to use the new password after the administrator credential has been changed.
