Before you start
- Access to the HP OfficeJet Pro 8124e touchscreen.
- The home Wi-Fi network name and password.
- Disconnect any Ethernet cable before Wi-Fi setup; HP says a wired Ethernet connection disables Wi-Fi.
- For the app step, a phone on that same home network with the official HP app.
Change the network from the printer’s touchscreen
The source demonstrates reconnecting through the OfficeJet’s own screen, followed by discovering it in the HP app on an iPhone. You need the home-network name and its Wi-Fi password. Connecting the phone and printer to the same home network is different from joining a DIRECT printer network.
Step 1:Open the Wi-Fi Setup Wizard
On the printer’s Home screen, open Menu → Settings → Network → Wi-Fi. In HP’s manual, Settings appears in the Utilities part of Menu. Turn Wi-Fi on if needed, then select Wi-Fi Setup Wizard and Start. Let the printer look for nearby networks.
Step 2:Select your home network and enter its password
Choose the network you want the printer to use. Enter that router network’s password on the touchscreen keyboard, check it carefully, and accept the confirmation screen. Keep the printer near enough to the router to receive its signal while the connection completes.
This is the home Wi-Fi password, not a Wi-Fi Direct password or the printer administrator PIN. The source uses the iPhone’s saved network details to look up the correct password; use your own network credentials.
Step 3:Confirm the network connection
Wait for the wizard’s connection result and check the wireless light. In the video, the wizard reports “Connection successful” and the blue light becomes steady. A later screen briefly reports an unavailable connection, so the presenter also checks whether the printer appears in the app.
Do not dismiss an ongoing error because the light is steady. Open Menu → Settings → Network → Wi-Fi → View Details to check the current network. The HP manual also provides network-report options for diagnosing a failed connection.
Step 4:Add the already-connected printer in the HP app
Put the phone on the same home Wi-Fi. Open the official HP app, choose Add device and use its option to add an existing or available printer. Select this OfficeJet when it appears. In the source it is discovered immediately after the printer joins the network.
If stale network settings prevent setup
When normal setup cannot replace an old connection, the video’s recovery route is Menu → Settings → Network → Restore network settings. Read the printer’s warning before confirming: it says network settings and administrator passwords will be reset. Have the current home Wi-Fi credentials ready, confirm only if you intend that reset, then rerun the Wi-Fi Setup Wizard.
A network reset is narrower than restoring all factory defaults. Do not choose a full factory reset for this task. Menu wording can differ with firmware; HP’s manual also places restore options under Menu → Utilities → Tools → Maintenance → Restore Settings.
Questions & troubleshooting
The app cannot find the printer after setup.
Check that the phone and printer use the same home network and that the app is adding an existing or available printer. Inspect the printer’s Wi-Fi details or network report before resetting it again.
The light is steady but a connection error remains.
Read the actual error and check the current network in Wi-Fi → View Details. A steady light is a useful signal, but it does not prove app setup or printing has completed.
