Before you start
- A working internet connection and uninterrupted printer power.
Keep power and internet available
A firmware update changes the printer’s internal software. Make sure the printer can reach the internet and that you can leave it powered and connected while the update runs. A steady Wi-Fi light alone does not confirm internet access.
Step 1:Open the firmware settings
In the source touchscreen layout, choose Menu → Tools → Maintenance → Firmware. The page displays the installed version and a Check control.
HP’s manual also documents Menu → Settings → Firmware Update on a different layout. Use the named firmware-update function on your own screen rather than changing unrelated maintenance settings.
Step 2:Check for a newer update
Select Check and wait for the printer’s result. If an update is offered, read its information and choose Yes when you are ready to install. Read the restart notice and select Continue to start.
If the printer reports that it is up to date, there is no new update to install in that check. The source initially shows an up-to-date label and then finds an available update after a fresh check; this is not a guarantee that your unit will find one.
Step 3:Leave the printer on until it finishes
Allow the update to download and install. The source ends after starting the process, so it does not establish a completion time or a successfully installed version. Check your own final status and, once it is idle, reopen Firmware to inspect the resulting version or update state.
If the update reports an error or the printer remains unresponsive, record the exact screen and contact HP’s model-specific support. Do not use an arbitrary elapsed time as permission to cut power during firmware installation.
