Before you start
- The HP app installed and the OfficeJet already discoverable on the iPhone.
- Supported originals: glass for photos, feeder for appropriate loose document sheets.
Use the printer scanner in the HP app
Have the printer and iPhone connected to the same home network and the OfficeJet added in the HP app. Open the printer’s Scan function and use Printer as the source; Camera scan captures a phone photograph instead.
You do not need to configure the printer’s Scan to Email or Scan to Computer menu for this iPhone workflow. Those are separate features, not proof that the printer scanner is unavailable.
Step 1:For a single page, place the original face down on the glass
Lift the document cover. Place the side to be scanned face down, with its corner against the scanner glass’s marked alignment guide, then close the cover gently. Use the glass for photos or originals unsuitable for the feeder.
Select the flatbed/glass source if the app asks which area to scan, review the size and color settings, and start Scan. Wait for the preview before moving the original. The supporting scan video shows a completed glass scan arriving in the app.
Step 2:For loose pages, load the document feeder face up
Remove originals from the glass. Put supported loose document pages face up in the top document feeder with the first page on top. Slide the stack in until it is detected, then bring the guides to its edges without bending the pages.
Select Document Feeder or the detected batch source in the app and start Scan. Let it feed all pages. The primary video scans three pages; compare your own page count with your originals and remove them from the feeder output afterward.
Step 3:Review every page before saving
Open the completed scan’s page preview. Check that every page is present, upright and in the intended order. Rotate or reorder pages where needed; the primary video’s pages initially appear upside down and are rotated in the app.
When using the glass for several pages, use Add pages after each scan, replace the original and continue until the document is complete. Review the combined preview before saving; simply seeing one good page does not confirm the rest.
Step 4:Save one PDF to Files and reopen it
Choose Share/Save, give the document a useful name and select PDF as the file type. Choose the desired size or compression option. In the iPhone share options, choose Save to Files, select a folder and save.
Open Files and locate the saved PDF. Reopen it to check the page count and order. The primary source shows the Files area after saving; verify your own saved document rather than assuming a scan preview has already been stored.
Questions & troubleshooting
The scan is blank.
On the glass, the image faces down; in the top document feeder, it faces up. Also confirm the selected source matches where you placed the original.
I can see a preview but cannot find the PDF.
Finish Share/Save, select PDF and choose Save to Files with a destination folder. Then reopen it in Files. A preview is not automatically proof of a saved file.
Can I scan both sides of originals automatically?
This guide demonstrates one-sided feeder scans and manually placed glass originals. Do not assume automatic two-sided scanning from the printer’s two-sided printing feature.
