Before you start
- Unused plain white A4 or Letter paper and installed ink cartridges.
- A reason to align, such as a setup prompt or a print-quality troubleshooting instruction.
Align when setup or print-quality troubleshooting calls for it
Alignment prints a pattern and scans it so the printer can adjust its output. It uses paper and ink. Follow an alignment request during setup or an appropriate print-quality diagnosis; HP cautions against running maintenance repeatedly without a reason.
Step 1:Load paper and start Printhead Alignment
Load unused plain white A4 or Letter paper. In the source touchscreen layout, open Menu → Tools → Troubleshooting → Printhead Alignment. Read the prompt and start the procedure.
HP’s manual describes a Supplies → Troubleshooting → Print Quality route under Menu for maintenance on another documented layout. Select the alignment function on your screen; cleaning is a different procedure.
Step 2:Place the printed alignment page on the glass
Wait for the alignment sheet to finish printing. Lift the scanner lid and place the printed side face down, aligned with the glass’s marked corner. The source points out the small right-angle mark; use that physical guide rather than another corner.
Close the scanner lid and press Scan on the touchscreen when requested. Do not place this sheet in the top document feeder for the glass-based procedure shown.
Step 3:Wait for the alignment result
Leave the printer to scan the pattern and finish processing. The source ends with an alignment-complete message. Check your own screen for that result before sending a new job, then remove the sheet from the scanner glass.
