Before you start
- One supported paper size and type, with its packaging available if the printable side or type is unclear.
Match the tray and print job to the paper
The bottom input tray holds the paper you will print on. The upper document feeder holds originals for copying or scanning; it is not the supply tray. Use one paper size and type in the bottom tray at a time.
Step 1:Open the tray and spread the guides
Wait until printing has stopped, pull the bottom tray toward you and remove any paper of a different type or size. Move the width guides outward. For standard A4 or Letter, use the matching tray marks; those are different sizes, so select the one you actually have.
For longer legal paper, the source demonstrates pressing the tray’s extension release and pulling the front outward. Do not extend the tray just to fit normal A4 paper.
Step 2:Insert the stack and adjust the guides
Place the stack flat with its printable side down. Align it with the appropriate paper-size indicators and keep it below the tray’s maximum stack mark. Slide the two side guides inward until they touch the paper without bending or pinching it.
For glossy paper, follow the package to identify the printable surface. Do not copy the video’s guessed sheet capacity: use the height mark and your printer’s supported media instructions.
Step 3:Close the tray and confirm its settings
Close the tray gently and pull out the output-tray extension. If the paper-change prompt appears, choose Modify. If it disappears, open Menu → Trays and select Modify for the input tray.
Set the exact paper size and the appropriate type. Plain paper, glossy inkjet paper and matte paper need different selections. Choose the entry that matches the package rather than assuming that any paper labelled “photo” is the same.
Step 4:Match the settings in the print dialog
When printing a photo from the HP app, select Print Photos, choose the image and check the paper type, size and color settings before submitting. The photo-paper source also selects Best quality; that can take longer than a standard-quality job.
Questions & troubleshooting
The paper-change prompt disappeared.
Open Menu → Trays and choose Modify. You can correct the stored paper size and type there without waiting for the prompt to appear again.
Which way should glossy photo paper face?
Its printable side faces down in this bottom input tray. Identify that surface from the paper package; the source’s spoken uncertainty is resolved by HP’s loading instructions.
