A little preparation

Before you start

  • Your router name and password if reconnection will be needed.
  • For an HP+ printer, access to the HP account used for its original setup.
  • Any settings you need to re-enter recorded before restoring.

Choose the smallest relevant action

A restart, a network-settings restore and a factory-settings restore are different actions. For a printer that temporarily stops responding, first use Power to shut it down, wait until movement and the power light stop, and restart. For a changed router or a connection problem, use the Wi-Fi guide and its conditional network restore.

This article describes the normal touchscreen Restore all factory defaults command. The recording’s semi-full or partial wording does not establish a hidden service-menu procedure.

Read the consequences before continuing

If an error identifies paper, ink or another specific problem, use that problem’s instructions first. Neither recording demonstrates that a factory restore repairs every printing fault.

From Home choose Menu, scroll to Utilities and select Tools → Maintenance → Restore Settings. The menu also contains narrower restore options. Check the exact option instead of selecting the first Restore label you see.

Step 2:Choose Restore all factory defaults deliberately

Select Restore all factory defaults. Read the displayed confirmation and continue only if you intend to discard the changed printer settings. Choose Restore as shown in the source, then wait for the printer to complete its process without interrupting power.

Step 3:Complete the returned setup prompts

The presenter says the printer returns to initial language and setup prompts. Follow the prompts actually shown on your unit, reconnect it to the intended network and add it again in the HP app if required. Use the original HP account when HP+ registration is requested.

After setup, send a small test document and check its output. If the original error returns, record its exact wording and use HP’s problem-specific support; repeating the same restore is not evidence of progress.

Questions & troubleshooting

I only changed my router password.

Use the Wi-Fi wizard and, if needed, Restore Network Settings. A full factory restore is a broader action than replacing the saved network connection.

The same error appears after setup.

Record the exact error and follow the corresponding HP troubleshooting. These videos do not establish that resetting fixes a cartridge, feed or hardware fault.
