A little preparation

Before you start

  • A powered-on ENVY 6100e-series printer.
  • For app or browser readings: the printer already connected and available to that device.

Use the reading to plan, not to diagnose every defect

These are estimated ink levels. A low warning can help you prepare replacement ink, while an apparently full bar does not prove that the cartridge is printing correctly. HP notes that readings can be inaccurate or unavailable for refilled cartridges or cartridges moved from another printer.

Step 1:Check Supplies on the touchscreen

From the Home screen, swipe right to the controls and open Supplies. Choose Ink Cartridges if another page appears. Read the black and colour estimates separately; this is the fastest method shown because it needs no phone connection.

Step 2:Read the connected printer’s estimate in the HP app

Open the HP app and select this printer. Look for Estimated ink levels in its device view. Check the printer name before interpreting the bars so you do not read a different printer’s supplies.

Step 3:Use the local printer settings if needed

The recording opens Settings → View all → Advanced Settings in the HP app to reach the printer’s local web settings. Open its supplies or cartridge section for the estimate. If an administrator password is requested, HP identifies the default printer PIN on the label inside the cartridge access door; a changed password takes its place.

This is an optional view of the same printer, not a requirement to create a new online account or expose the printer to the Internet.

Decide what the result means

Have the correct regional replacement ready when ink is low. If the page is defective while ink appears available, inspect a diagnostic print and use the appropriate print-quality checks instead of repeatedly checking the bars. If the estimate is unavailable, the actual output and the printer’s error message remain relevant.

A little extra help

Questions & troubleshooting

There is no exact percentage or page count.

An estimate is not a promised number of remaining pages. Use it to plan supplies, then assess the actual printed result.

The bar looks full but black text is missing.

The level indicator does not prove ink is reaching the page. Check the print-quality result and any cartridge error rather than assuming a full bar rules out an ink problem.
