A little preparation

Before you start

  • An ENVY 6100e-series printer connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the iPhone.
  • Paper and ink loaded, and a document in an app that supports printing.

Start with a shared network

AirPrint is the iPhone’s system printing route. This article starts after the printer has joined the same Wi-Fi network as the phone. If it has not, complete the separate Wi-Fi setup first; you do not need to reset a working printer just to open the iPhone print sheet.

Step 1:Open the document’s Print action

In the source, the document is in Files. Open it, tap Share and scroll to Print. Other apps may put Print under an Actions menu, and some do not offer printing at all.

Step 2:Choose the correct printer

Tap the printer selector and choose your ENVY. Check the displayed name if more than one printer appears. A USB or Bluetooth connection is not this shared-network AirPrint workflow.

Step 3:Review the job and tap Print

Choose the needed pages and copy count, and check the available paper options. Confirm that the chosen size matches the paper loaded in the printer. Tap Print and wait for the job to finish.

Check the actual sheet

The presenter reports that the document prints. Check your own page for the intended content, page range and size; seeing a printer in the list is only the discovery stage. This local AirPrint flow does not require opening the HP app for each print, but it does not remove any separate initial printer-setup requirements.

A little extra help

Questions & troubleshooting

No printer appears.

Confirm both devices use the same Wi-Fi network and the printer is awake. Complete its network connection before retrying the printer selector.

There is no Print action in the app.

Not every iPhone app supports printing. Check that app’s help or open the document in a compatible app such as Files when the file type allows it.
