Prepare before leaving your ordinary network

Wi-Fi Direct connects the phone to the printer’s own wireless network. It provides no Internet connection. Install the official HP app and download the file you need while normal Internet access is available. Load plain paper and make sure ink is installed.

This recording uses an iPhone. HP’s manual allows up to five Direct connections; it does not demonstrate identical app features on every operating system.

Step 1:Print your own Direct details

Press Information and Resume together to print the Wi-Fi Direct guide. It includes this printer’s Direct name and password. HP documents a simultaneous press; the recording’s longer hold is not a required five-second command.

A single press of Information prints the information page, which also contains Direct details in the recording. Keep these pages private and never copy credentials from the video.

Step 2:Turn Direct on only if its icon is absent

Look for the separate Wi-Fi Direct icon. If it is absent, hold Wi-Fi and Resume together for 3 seconds. The icon should appear.

This combination toggles the feature, so do not repeat it when Direct is already on. The ordinary Wi-Fi light describes a different connection feature.

Step 3:Join the matching network on the iPhone

Open Settings → Wi-Fi and select the Direct network whose name matches your page. Enter the password from that page and join.

This password is different from the router password, printer-label PIN and temporary WPS PIN. The recording shows the phone joining its printer’s network.

Step 4:Add the existing printer and check the result

While connected to Direct, open the HP app, choose Add device and add an existing or available printer. Select this DeskJet. The source shows discovery, not a completed print or scan.

Print a local document and inspect its output. Internet-dependent features may be unavailable. When finished, reconnect the phone to your normal network; its Direct-only route to the printer ends when it leaves. For routine shared household use, follow the separate home Wi-Fi guide.
