Read the wireless light and icons first
If Wi-Fi is off, press Wi-Fi once. A blinking blue light with cycling signal bars can mean setup mode or a connection attempt. A Wi-Fi icon blinking in sync with the light indicates WPS mode. Blinking alone is not a reason to reset.
If the Wi-Fi alert is on and bars cycle, check the router’s power and move the printer closer. If the alert blinks with the Wi-Fi light, press Wi-Fi and Information together to print the wireless test and network report. Read its diagnosis. This brief press is different from the five-second WPS-PIN hold.
A steady light shows a wireless network connection. Keep a working connection and check whether the phone is on the same network. These app steps demonstrate iPhone, not identical menus on every operating system.
Step 1:Prepare the phone and network
Connect the iPhone to your intended network and enable Bluetooth for HP app discovery. Bluetooth helps setup; it is not the printing connection. Open the official HP app and keep your own Wi-Fi password available even though the recorded Apple flow shares the saved network.
Step 2:Restore network setup only when needed
Use a network reset when changing the saved network or when setup mode is unavailable. It clears network settings, so reconnection is required. If a job is active, cancel it and wait for motion to stop.
Hold Cancel and Wi-Fi together for 3 seconds, then release. HP’s manual specifies 3 seconds; the recordings count up to 5. Look for a blinking blue light, cycling signal bars and no Wi-Fi alert.
If setup mode merely timed out, HP says to try the Wi-Fi button to enable it again before repeating a network reset. This is separate from a factory reset of all settings.
Step 3:Add the printer to the intended network
In the HP app choose Add device, then launch new-printer setup. A printer whose network settings were reset follows this route even if you already own it. Select the DeskJet.
If the iPhone offers accessory setup, check your network and continue. Otherwise supply your own credentials as prompted. Wait for the connection result, then press and release the flashing Information button when the app requests proximity confirmation.
Step 4:Complete the actual setup requirements
Continue any required account and setup prompts, choosing optional data-sharing and subscription preferences yourself. One recording exits a registration error; this does not prove that every registration failure is harmless. Keep the exact error and follow HP’s guidance if setup cannot finish.
A steady light and the app dashboard confirm connection progress. Print a small document from the same network and inspect the physical result before treating the task as complete.
Use the diagnosis if the connection still fails
Read the wireless test report and check the exact model’s support page. HP currently flags a firmware update for connectivity on these model pages. Follow its model-specific update instructions and do not interrupt an installation.
Do not repeatedly clear network settings while a job, initial connection or firmware update is still processing. A network connection is separate from Internet access and cloud-service registration.
Questions & troubleshooting
Is a blinking blue light always a fault?
No. Read the accompanying icons: setup, a connection attempt, WPS and a connection error have different patterns.
Does this erase every printer setting?
No. Cancel + Wi-Fi restores network settings and requires reconnection. It is separate from a factory reset.
