A little preparation

Before you start

  • Read the prompt first: WPS PIN and administrator password are different credentials.
  • For the printed WPS page, paper and ink loaded and the printer powered on.

Read which credential is requested

A WPS PIN is a temporary code for a WPS connection. The administrator PIN is the default password for protected printer settings. Neither is the home router’s Wi-Fi password. For a DIRECT network, use the Wi-Fi Direct name and password from its guide instead.

Step 1:Print the temporary WPS PIN

Press and hold Wi-Fi and Information together for five seconds. Let the WPS PIN Code page print. Enter the printed code in the WPS prompt before its stated expiry. The source page says 120 seconds; if it expires, print a new code rather than using the old one.

A brief simultaneous press of those buttons prints network reports instead. The five-second hold is what selects the WPS PIN page.

Step 2:Locate the default admin PIN if that is what you need

Open the front outer panel and then the cartridge access door. Find the PIN label inside, read your own printer’s value and close both doors. Keep clear of any carriage movement; you do not need to remove cartridges to read the label.

The supporting recording finds the label inside and does not find it on the outside. Use the manufacturer-confirmed internal label rather than assuming every model has an external copy.

Use a changed administrator password when applicable

If someone replaced the administrator password in the printer’s settings, use that current password; the printed default does not override it. Ask the person who manages the printer rather than factory-resetting it simply because the first entry was rejected.

Keep the PIN label and connection report out of public screenshots. These codes identify a connection or protect settings; they are not interchangeable universal printer passwords.

Questions & troubleshooting

The WPS code stopped working.

Check the printed expiry. The source page provides a 120-second window. Print a fresh code and use it for the WPS prompt.

I only got a network report.

For the WPS PIN page, hold Wi-Fi and Information together for five seconds. A brief press prints network reports.

Is this the password for my home Wi-Fi?

No. The router password, Wi-Fi Direct password and printer administrator PIN serve different prompts.
