Before you start
- The printer on, idle, with plain paper and ink loaded.
- For its home-network address, a completed connection to that home network.
Look for the address of the connection you use
For a home-network IP address, first check that the printer is connected to that network. Wi-Fi Direct is a separate connection and can have a different address; the source’s claim that an unconnected printer can never have any IP address is too broad.
Step 1:Print the network configuration page
With the printer idle and paper loaded, briefly press Wi-Fi and Information together, then release. HP says this prints the Network Configuration Page and Wireless Network Test Results Report. Wait for the reports rather than repeatedly pressing buttons.
Do not hold the pair for five seconds: that selects a WPS PIN page. A single Information press prints the simpler information page shown in the recording.
Step 2:Read the network name, status and IP address
Locate the connected network’s name and the printer IP address on the page. Compare the network with the one your computer or phone uses. Read any disconnected or unavailable status too; an address field alone is not proof that the desired network connection works.
Use the address for the intended local task
When a printer-add or local-settings task asks for an address, use the current value from your own report. Do not copy the example address shown in the video. Reprint the report if the network configuration changes.
The source reports strong signal but also an Internet-status warning. Local network access and Internet access are different checks; do not dismiss a persistent warning merely because a signal is present. Keep passwords and other private identifiers hidden when sharing a report.
Questions & troubleshooting
The page has no usable address for my home network.
Check the network name and connection status. Complete or repair that connection, then print a fresh report.
The report includes more than one connection section.
Use the address for the route your device actually uses. A home-network address and a Direct address are not interchangeable.
