A little preparation

Before you start

  • Your current Wi-Fi name and password if you intend to reconnect.
  • The official HP app or printer software ready on the device you will use.

Use this only when the network needs setting up

Use wireless setup mode after a router, network name or password change, or when the printer needs a fresh wireless setup. If it already has a steady blue light and the correct network, first check that the phone uses that same network and that the app has selected this printer.

Step 1:Turn the printer on and make it ready

Turn on the DeskJet. If a job is active, press Cancel and allow it to stop before continuing.

Step 2:Hold Wireless and Cancel until Power blinks

Press and hold Wireless and Cancel together. Release when the Power light starts blinking, then wait for the activity to finish. HP’s 2600 guide uses that indicator, so the differing three- or ten-second estimates in the recordings are not a reason to keep holding after it happens.

Step 3:Start the network setup promptly

Check for the blinking blue Wireless light, which means wireless is on but not yet connected to a network. Open the HP app and start Add device or printer setup. HP advises completing setup within two hours of restoring setup mode. Choose the intended home network and enter that network’s password. The DeskJet 2600 uses a 2.4 GHz connection.

Check the connection from your normal network

After setup, return the phone or computer to the same home Wi-Fi as the printer. A steady blue light indicates the printer has joined a wireless network; also confirm that the app finds the correct printer from that network. A direct connection to the printer alone is a different result.

If the app cannot discover it, use the linked reconnection guide for the demonstrated local wireless-wizard method rather than repeating resets indefinitely.

A little extra help

Questions & troubleshooting

Does this turn Wi-Fi Direct on?

Do not use a network reset just to enable Wi-Fi Direct. On the DeskJet 2600, HP specifies holding Wireless and Resume together for three seconds to switch Wi-Fi Direct on or off. Check its separate display icon.

Will this fix a blinking ink light or a jam?

No such repair is demonstrated. Identify the actual cartridge or paper error and use the relevant task guide; resetting wireless settings changes the connection.
