Before you start
- An HP DeskJet 2600 series printer within reach.
- For reconnecting: the current home Wi-Fi name and password, a 2.4 GHz network, and a phone with the official HP app.
Use this when the printer needs a new network
This sequence replaces the printer’s saved wireless connection. If the blue light is already steady and you have not changed networks, first check that your phone uses the same home Wi-Fi and that the app has selected the right printer. The related light and discovery guides cover those checks.
You will use two network names if normal setup fails: your home Wi-Fi is the final connection; the DeskJet’s own network is a temporary way to reach its settings. Their passwords are different.
Step 1:Restore wireless setup
Turn the printer on. Hold Wireless and Cancel together until Power begins blinking, then allow that brief activity to finish. This is HP’s model-specific indicator for restoring wireless setup; do not treat the number of seconds spoken in a video as a universal button timing.
Step 2:Try normal setup first
Open the official HP app and choose Add device → Launch setup. If the DeskJet appears, select it and follow the network prompts. Complete that setup, then go to the final home-network check below. If the app does not find the printer, continue with the temporary connection.
Step 3:Connect the phone to this DeskJet
- Open the phone’s Wi-Fi settings and choose the network identifying your DeskJet 2600. Use its own credentials if requested.
- For Wi-Fi Direct credentials, press Information and Resume together to print the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct guide. A password from another printer or an old demonstration may not be yours.
- Return to the HP app, choose Add an existing printer and select the discovered DeskJet.
Step 4:Save the home network in the wireless wizard
- On the printer screen in the app, open Printer settings → View all → Advanced settings.
- On the printer’s local settings page, open Network → Wireless (802.11) → Wireless Setup Wizard.
- Select your home Wi-Fi name. Continue and enter that network’s current password, not the printer’s direct-connection password.
- Wait for the connection summary, then choose Finish.
The DeskJet 2600 requires a 2.4 GHz network. If your intended network is absent, check that the router offers a suitable network before repeating the reset.
Step 5:Return the phone to home Wi-Fi and check
Open the phone’s Wi-Fi settings and reconnect it to the home network you selected in the wizard. Reopen the HP app. Check that the wireless light is steady blue and that this DeskJet is still available from that network.
The presenter removes and adds the app entry again to demonstrate discovery. You do not need to remove an entry that already works correctly.
Questions & troubleshooting
Which password goes in the wizard?
Enter the password for the home Wi-Fi name you selected. The printer’s own Wi-Fi Direct password is used only if the phone requests it while joining the printer network.
My home network is missing from the list.
HP specifies 2.4 GHz for the DeskJet 2600. Check that your router offers a suitable network. This guide does not require changing router security settings or using an unverified network workaround.
The printer disappears when my phone leaves its network.
Recheck that the wizard completed, that it selected the intended home network, and that the phone rejoined the same network. A direct link alone does not confirm router setup.
Advanced settings opens a browser warning.
Do not automatically dismiss it. Confirm you opened your own printer’s local settings from its app entry. If you cannot identify that page as belonging to your printer, stop and use the HP support reference below.
