Before you start
- An HP DeskJet 2600 series printer within reach.
- For reconnecting: the current home Wi-Fi name and password, a 2.4 GHz network, and a phone with the official HP app.
Read the wireless light
Look at the blue light beside the Wireless button. It tells you about the wireless connection; a paper, ink or other error needs the corresponding printer message. A blinking wireless light alone does not identify a jam.
- Off: wireless capability is disabled. The Wireless button switches it on or off.
- Blinking: wireless is on, but the printer has not connected to a network. It may still be trying to connect.
- Steady: the printer has joined a wireless network. This does not by itself confirm that your phone is on that network or that a print job can complete.
Step 1:Match the light to what just changed
- Just turned the printer on or started setup? Let that operation finish, then check the light again.
- Changed your router, network name or password? The saved connection may be out of date; use the reconnect sequence below.
- Steady light, but the app cannot print? Put your phone on the intended home Wi-Fi and select this DeskJet in the app before changing network settings.
If the light is off and you intend to use Wi-Fi, press Wireless to enable it. Recheck the light; turning wireless on does not supply a new router password.
Step 2:Reconnect only if the saved network needs replacing
If you need to replace the old Wi-Fi connection, first have the current network name and password ready. Restoring wireless settings removes the saved wireless configuration. With the printer on, hold Wireless and Cancel together until Power starts blinking. Wait for that short activity to finish; the printer is ready for wireless setup.
In the HP app, choose Add device → Launch setup, select the printer if it appears, and complete the network prompts. If the light becomes steady and the app can reach it from home Wi-Fi, the network check is complete. If normal setup cannot find it, the next section describes the recovery shown in the video.
Step 3:If normal setup fails, use the printer connection
In the phone’s Wi-Fi settings, join the network identifying your DeskJet 2600. Return to the HP app and add it as an existing printer. For a Wi-Fi Direct password, use the credentials printed for your own printer: Information + Resume prints HP’s Wi-Fi Direct guide.
Open Printer settings → View all → Advanced settings. On the printer’s settings page, choose Network → Wireless (802.11) → Wireless Setup Wizard. Select your home network, enter its password, and finish the wizard. The related reconnect guide provides the screen-by-screen sequence.
Confirm the light and the network
After the wizard finishes, return the phone to your normal home Wi-Fi. The video checks that the blue light is steady and that the HP app can still find the printer. Check both: a printer that appears only on its own temporary network has not yet demonstrated the home-network result.
Questions & troubleshooting
The light is steady, but the printer is still unavailable.
First check that your phone uses the intended home Wi-Fi and that this printer is selected in the HP app. A steady light confirms a wireless connection, not that it is the correct network. Check any separate printer or app error before clearing a working connection.
The light blinks while I am setting up the printer.
That is consistent with a printer that has not joined a network yet. Finish the current app or Wireless Setup Wizard process, then check for a steady light. If setup cannot find the device, use the discovery guide linked below.
The app finds it only on the printer’s own Wi-Fi.
That confirms the temporary phone-to-printer link. Finish the router connection in the Wireless Setup Wizard and test again after returning the phone to home Wi-Fi.
