A little preparation

Before you start

  • A replacement toner cartridge confirmed for your exact model and sales region.
  • A clean work area and supported paper for a check print.

Confirm the exact regional supply first

This is a toner-cartridge task, not an ink-tank refill. Use HP’s exact-model and region information to choose a compatible cartridge. The shared manual lists different supply families for different sales regions; a cartridge number in a source poster is not a compatibility recommendation.

Step 1:Open the drawer and remove the cartridge

  • Open the front cartridge access door gently.
  • Pull the toner drawer out using its blue handle.
  • Hold the cartridge handle and lift that cartridge straight up. Work on one colour at a time if that helps you keep the slots clear.

Step 2:Prepare the new cartridge

Unpack the replacement according to its supplied instructions. Hold it at both ends and gently rock it to distribute toner, as HP illustrates. Avoid the roller surface and protective cover; do not shake it aggressively.

The source suggests five or six gentle movements, but HP’s applicable replacement text does not require an exact count. If toner reaches clothing, HP says to wipe it with a dry cloth and wash in cold water; hot water sets toner into fabric.

Step 3:Match the colour and close the printer

  • Match the cartridge’s colour marker to the corresponding marker on the drawer, then lower it into that slot.
  • Replace another cartridge only if needed, using the same matching process.
  • Slide the drawer fully back in and close the access door. Let the printer finish initializing before sending a job.

Read any message and check the output

If the printer reports an installation or supply error, read that message and check the exact cartridge and slot. Do not force the drawer closed. With paper loaded, print a small sample and inspect it; the source does not establish a universal guarantee of successful replacement.

Use an appropriate local recycling route for the old cartridge. HP’s recycling information is linked from the applicable manual.
