Step 1:Open the supply screen

On the control panel Home screen, swipe right and touch Supplies. Open Cartridges to see the installed toner cartridges and their estimated levels.

Step 2:Read the individual cartridge estimates

Check which colour or black cartridge is low or unavailable. These LaserJet models use toner cartridges, not liquid-ink cartridges. HP states that the indicators are estimates for planning and that a low alert does not mean every cartridge must immediately be replaced.

Step 3:Alternative: check the HP app

If the printer is already connected to the official HP app, select the correct printer from its device list and open its supply information. The source shows the levels on that selected printer’s screen. This does not turn an estimate into a measured toner quantity.

If a cartridge is unreadable

Read the actual cartridge message and identify the affected supply. An unreadable, incompatible or empty indication is not automatically a toner-distribution problem. Follow the applicable cartridge instructions for that message; do not treat rolling a cartridge as a demonstrated repair for every warning.

What the reading tells you

You should have a per-cartridge estimate or a specific message requiring attention. Plan supplies from that information and the printer’s prompts. No remaining page count or guaranteed recovery is inferred from the level display.
