Before you start
- Identify whether the prompt asks for the printer administrator password, your home Wi-Fi password or a Wi-Fi Direct password. They serve different purposes.
Step 1:Check which password is requested
The source locates the XP-2205 printer administrator password. Although its title uses “WiFi Admin Password,” this is not the password for joining your home router. It authorizes printer-setting changes, such as advanced Web Config access or a firmware update.
Step 2:Look for the PASSWORD label on your printer
The demonstration finds the label inside the XP-2205 beneath the scanner unit. Open the scanner unit carefully to its normal supported position and look for the label marked PASSWORD. Read your own printer’s label; the number shown in someone else’s video is not your credential. Do not touch the internal mechanisms while looking for it.
Epson’s current password guidance says that where a PASSWORD label is present, its value is the default administrator password. If the product has no such label, use its serial number, without surrounding asterisk symbols. The exact label location can vary.
Step 3:Use the current password if it was changed
A printed label provides the initial password. If you or another administrator changed it, use the current administrator password instead. Do not repeatedly try your router password in a printer-administrator prompt.
If the current password is unknown, consult the exact XP-2205 support guidance before choosing a reset. A network reset removes the saved network connection, so it should not be an unexplained first step.
Step 4:Close the printer and continue the original task
Close the scanner unit carefully and return to the original administrator prompt. Enter the appropriate printer password privately. A successful administrator login confirms access to printer settings; it does not by itself establish the printer’s Wi-Fi connection.
Questions & troubleshooting
Why does an older manual mention only the serial number?
Epson’s current general password guidance also covers printers supplied with a separate PASSWORD label. Check your own printer for that label first; use the serial number when no password label exists.
Is this also the Wi-Fi Direct password?
No. Wi-Fi Direct uses its own connection credentials. Do not assume the administrator label supplies the network password.
