A little preparation

Before you start

  • Note the exact message and whether it appears on the printer or only in the app. Save any scan already completed before closing software.
  • Have a known readable original and suitable blank paper available for one local copy.

Step 1:Read the actual error before changing settings

If the LCD shows E-02, Epson identifies it as a scanner error and directs you to turn the power off and on. A computer app failing to find the printer is a different starting point; do not assume every scan failure is E-02.

Cancel the current scan in its app or close the app after preserving any saved work. If the printer is carrying out another operation, let it stop before restarting.

Step 2:Restart with the power button

Turn the printer off normally with its power button, wait until the power light is off, then turn it on again. Check whether the same message returns.

Step 3:Try one local copy when the printer is ready

  1. Load blank paper and confirm its size and type. Place the original face down at the marked corner on the scanner glass and close the cover.
  2. From Home, select Copy. Choose colour or black-and-white, check the paper settings and request one copy.
  3. Check whether the scanner reads the original and whether a usable copy is produced.

A successful copy shows that the scanner and print path completed that particular task. It helps narrow the investigation toward the app or connection, but it does not prove that every scanner function is fault-free. If copying fails, record the displayed message; a paper, ink or printing fault can also stop a copy.

Step 4:If copying works, check the scan connection

Open the intended scanning app and select the correct printer. For the source’s Wi-Fi route, confirm that the computer or phone and printer use the same network. If using Epson Scan 2 on Windows, make sure its model-specific software is installed.

Try a small scan at a lower resolution if a network scan fails at a high resolution. An already configured second computer or Smart Panel phone can help determine whether the problem is limited to one app. A second-device test is diagnostic; it does not repair the original installation automatically.

Step 5:If the printer error remains

Use Epson’s exact-model support and report the displayed code and what happened during the local-copy test. If E-02 returns after the documented restart, seek model-specific assistance rather than opening the scanner housing or treating an unverified factory reset as the next step.

The video does not demonstrate a measured repair, and failure to copy alone does not prove that the printer must be replaced.

A little extra help

Questions & troubleshooting

Can I rule out all scanner faults if copying works?

No. One successful copy is useful evidence that the scanner completed that task, not a guarantee that every scan mode, connection or software path works.

Should I factory-reset the printer?

Not as a routine scanner-error step. The source suggests it without demonstrating a relevant result. Use the actual error code and Epson’s instructions instead.

Why does another phone scan successfully?

That narrows the problem toward the original device’s app, selection or connection. Recheck those conditions; it does not establish that the original computer has been fixed.
