A little preparation

Before you start

  • Have plain paper loaded correctly and check the actual ink levels through the tank windows. Resolve a displayed ink or maintenance warning before cleaning.
  • Keep one failed print and the nozzle-test sheet so you can compare the results.

Step 1:Check the paper and the intended output

Make sure the page you are sending contains the intended content, then check the paper in the rear feeder. Load it straight with the guides at the edges. Confirm the printer’s registered size and type match the sheets and the print job.

Use Change on the paper prompt, or Settings → Printer Setup → Paper Source Settings → Paper Setting. A prompt appearing is a settings opportunity, not proof that all paper-feed or print-quality problems have been fixed.

Load A4 or Letter plain paper in the rear feeder, printable side up. Set the edge guides against the stack and extend the output tray. Open Maintenance → Nozzle Check; choose More first if Maintenance is grouped there on your home screen. Follow the paper prompt and print the pattern. Inspect all the black and colour segments.

  • Complete pattern: stop cleaning. Recheck the file, selected printer and job settings; the nozzle test does not reproduce the blank document.
  • Some missing segments: use the ordinary Cleaning workflow, then inspect the new nozzle pattern.
  • A blank pattern or more than half the lines missing: Epson identifies this as a Power Cleaning case. Read the cleaning conditions and any screen warning before confirming.

Step 3:Use the appropriate cleaning guide

The related printhead-cleaning guide explains the menu route and limits for ordinary Cleaning and Power Cleaning. During a cycle, leave the printer on and the scanner unit closed until it finishes.

The source stops before completing its proposed Power Cleaning. Its estimate of 20–30 minutes is not a timer or evidence of a completed repair. Wait for the actual printer prompts and check the resulting pattern.

Step 4:Compare the pattern and avoid repeated cycles

Stop maintenance once the pattern is complete, then print one page of the intended file. If that file is still blank while the nozzle pattern is complete, return to the file and print settings rather than consuming more ink.

If the pattern remains incomplete after three ordinary cleaning/check cycles, or after one Power Cleaning, Epson specifies at least 12 hours without printing before the next nozzle check and subsequent ordinary cleaning/check if needed. Three is a limit, not a target to run regardless of the result. If quality still does not recover, use Epson’s separate flushing/support instructions instead of inventing another reset.

A little extra help

Questions & troubleshooting

Does a blank page prove that the tanks are clogged?

No. A blank document and a blank nozzle pattern are different observations. Check the paper/job settings and use the nozzle test before choosing maintenance.

Should I use Power Cleaning after every blank sheet?

No. Follow the nozzle pattern and Epson’s conditions. Cleaning consumes ink and should stop when the pattern is complete.

Did this video demonstrate a successful Power Cleaning repair?

No. The presenter explains the route but stops before completing the cycle. This article uses Epson’s current conditions and asks you to verify your own pattern and output.
