Before you start
- Three A4/Letter plain sheets, working cartridges and a Windows computer with Wi-Fi; obtain needed software before leaving your Internet network.
Use the printer’s own network deliberately
Wireless Direct links your computer directly to this printer without a router. It is separate from adding the printer to home Wi-Fi. Download any needed official printer software first, because joining the printer’s network can disconnect the computer from its Internet-connected router.
The source demonstrates Windows. Canon also supports direct connections from compatible phones, but this page does not invent the phone interface from a desktop recording.
Step 1:Enable Wireless Direct with Wireless select
Turn on the printer. Press Wireless select until the Wireless Direct icon is displayed on the LCD. Canon explains that this button cycles the wireless settings; watch the actual icon instead of repeatedly pressing at random. Wireless connect is a different button used for setup.
Step 2:Print your own network details
Load three sheets of A4 or Letter plain paper in the rear tray, printable side facing you. Fit the guide gently, extend the output tray and confirm the correct paper size with Paper Select and OK. Press Information to print the network settings.
Find the Wireless Direct/Access Point Mode section. Use its SSID and password fields for this printer; do not copy the password visible in somebody else’s video. The report also includes private network and device information, so keep it private.
Step 3:Join the printed printer network
On Windows, open the Wi-Fi network list, select the SSID from your report and enter its password when requested. Canon describes the default name as a printer-specific six-character prefix followed by TS3700series; match your own report instead of guessing.
Windows can report no Internet while this local printer connection is working. That message does not turn Wireless Direct into a home-network connection, and it does not justify ignoring unrelated security warnings.
Step 4:Add the printer before sending the job
Open Windows Printers & scanners, choose Add device and select your matching printer while still connected to its wireless network. If there are several queues, identify the newly added printer rather than relying only on a long suffix.
Open a small local document, choose that printer, match the actual paper settings and print. The recording initially tries printing before describing this add-device step, then reports the setup working. Check your own page rather than assuming any earlier queue is correct.
Return to your usual network when finished
Reconnect the computer to its usual Wi-Fi when you need that network again. This disconnects the direct path used here; use the home-Wi-Fi setup guide if you want printer and computer to communicate through the router routinely.
