Before you start
- Read the actual support code and identify where paper is visible. Do not keep submitting jobs into a blocked path.
Use the support code to choose the remedy
E03 is not exclusively a paper jam. Canon lists 1203 for a cover opened during printing and 1300 for paper jammed while feeding from the rear tray. Read the computer’s support code and the printer’s full LCD sequence.
For 1203, follow the cover-open remedy: if paper remains, remove it slowly with both hands, close the cover and press OK. Canon warns that the interrupted page is not reprinted automatically; resend that page if necessary. Do not open the cover during an otherwise normal print.
Step 1:If the jammed sheet is visible at an opening
Stop an active print with Stop before turning the printer off if power-off is needed for removal. From the output slot or rear tray, whichever makes removal easier, hold the sheet with both hands and pull it slowly without tearing or force.
If it will not move, do not keep pulling. Canon says turning the printer back on may eject it automatically. If it tears, cannot be removed from either opening or remains inside, use the powered-off internal procedure below.
Step 2:For paper inside, isolate power and protect the clear film
Turn the printer off and unplug it. Retract the output tray and open the cover. Do not touch or scratch the transparent film behind the cartridge-holder area; paper and fingers can also damage it.
If paper is underneath the FINE cartridge holder, hold the holder itself and slide it slowly toward the left or right, whichever gives access. This movement is only for the unplugged printer; do not grab a powered, moving carriage.
Grip the paper with both hands and slowly remove it without tearing. If rolled, carefully unfold it enough to remove it. Check beneath the holder, both side spaces and the visible interior for remaining fragments.
Step 3:Close, reload and confirm the intended page
Close the cover, reconnect power and turn the printer on. Reload suitable flat paper in the rear tray, print-side facing you and portrait orientation; fit the guide gently and set the correct size. Extend the output tray.
After the visible-opening remedy, press OK once the paper is correctly loaded. If you powered off for removal, Canon says the queued jobs are cancelled, so submit the print again. Inspect the actual page; reprint an incomplete or damaged sheet.
If the jam returns or paper cannot be reached without force, use Canon service support. These recordings describe access but do not prove a successful jam repair, and a settings reset cannot remove trapped paper.
