A little preparation

Before you start

  • Supported flat paper and an unobstructed output area.

Prepare supported paper

Use paper supported by your exact model, such as A4 or Letter plain paper for an ordinary document. Align the edges and flatten curls before loading. Do not interpret the source’s “whatever size” as support for arbitrary media.

Canon warns against cutting plain paper down to 5 × 7 inches or smaller for trial printing because it can jam. Use the intended supported paper rather than improvised scraps.

Step 1:Load from the rear, in portrait orientation

Open the rear paper support and pull out the front output tray and its extension. Slide the paper guide outward.

Place the stack vertically against the far right of the rear tray, short edge entering first and the printable side facing you. Keep it below the load-limit mark. Bring the guide against the left edge without squeezing or bending the paper.

Step 2:Confirm the actual size on the LCD

With the printer on, the paper status and current size flash after loading. Press Paper Select until the loaded size is shown, then press OK. Do not assume the guide position automatically registers the size.

For a computer or phone print, choose the same paper size and the appropriate media type in that application. Correct a mismatch before submitting the job.

Step 3:Check the first sheet

Send one intended document and confirm the paper feeds squarely and exits without obstruction. The presenter reports a completed print in the source; this is not a promise that every paper type will work.

If the sheet skews or the paper alert remains, recheck the guide, flat stack, load limit and selected size. Read the exact code before treating it as a jam.
