A little preparation

Before you start

  • A suitable original, A4/Letter/B5/A5 plain paper and installed cartridges.

Step 1:Load and register plain paper

Turn the printer on with its cartridges installed. Load A4, Letter, B5 or A5 plain paper vertically at the right of the rear tray, printable side facing you; fit the guide gently and extend the output tray.

Press Paper Select to match A4, LTR, B5 or A5 on the LCD, then OK. Other size choices trigger a different photo-copying workflow, and no selected size can cause an error. Standalone copying does not require a phone, computer or Internet connection.

Step 2:Place the original face down

Open the document cover. Put the side to be copied against the glass, with its corner at the marked alignment position, then close the cover gently. Do not press hard on the glass.

The source briefly mixes “face up” into its explanation. The correct scanning side is face down against the glass, as Canon’s placement instruction specifies.

Step 3:Choose colour and the copy count

Briefly press Black for black-and-white or Color for colour. For Standard quality, press for less than two seconds. While the copy number flashes, press that same button again for additional copies and stop at the intended number. Once the display stops flashing, copying starts.

Keep the cover closed and the original still while the ON lamp flashes during scanning. Remove the original after the copying operation finishes. Press Stop if you need to cancel the operation.

Check the page and choose quality deliberately

Check that each copy contains the intended content and expected borders. Plain-paper copying uses the same magnification; the printer does not produce a borderless full-sheet plain-paper copy in this mode.

Canon also documents Draft mode: hold Black or Color for two seconds or more when starting the copy. Draft prioritises speed; Standard prioritises quality. The source’s claim that every quality change requires another device is therefore too broad.
