Before you start
- Do this only when you intend to discard the printer configuration, such as preparing it for transfer or following the applicable recovery procedure. It does not remove a jam, repair a scanner or restore consumed ink.
- Record the settings needed to set up again. Canon documents Speed Dial Utility2 backup for fax user information and speed-dial numbers. If resetting fax configuration, disconnect the telephone line beforehand, as Canon requires for the fax-reset option.
Choose the narrowest appropriate reset
- LAN settings clears network configuration. Network printing, scanning and faxing need setup again afterwards.
- Setting data resets items such as paper size and media type while excluding network and fax settings.
- Telephone no. data and Fax settings are separate telephone/fax reset choices. Canon requires disconnecting the telephone line before resetting Fax settings.
- Web service setup resets the web-service configuration.
- All data restores the settings you have configured and also returns the administrator password to its default.
Step 1:Confirm All data deliberately
- With the printer on and idle, press Setup.
- Select Device settings with left/right and press OK.
- Select Reset setting and press OK.
- Select All data and press OK. Read the displayed message and press OK.
- Read the final confirmation, choose Yes and press OK only if you intend to reset.
- Wait until the reset finishes and the normal display returns before starting setup again.
The source recordings use the reset confirmation screens; the written sequence follows Canon’s current labels and includes both message-confirmation stages.
Know what the reset does not clear
Canon lists exceptions: the LCD language, the current print-head position, cumulative copy/scan/fax usage statistics, the SSL/TLS certificate-signing request, and the selected country or region. All data is therefore not a command that zeros every stored value.
For a registered sender name or telephone number, Canon additionally documents opening Add unit name or Add unit tel. number, deleting all characters with Back and confirming with OK. Follow the linked sender-information instructions when those entries need removal; do not assume a counter or sender record has changed merely because the reset finished.
Step 2:Restore the configuration you need
- For continued use, follow the appropriate setup guide to reconnect the printer and add it on the intended device.
- Register the paper actually loaded and restore any necessary fax or other preferences.
- Send a small intended task and check its completed output. A completed reset only confirms that settings were reset; it does not prove the original symptom is repaired.
If transferring or sending the printer for repair, follow Canon’s linked preparation guidance, including handling retained personal data and any fax backup you need.
Questions & troubleshooting
Will this clear the page or ink-usage counter?
No. Canon explicitly preserves cumulative usage statistics. This is not an ink-level or service-counter reset.
Will it change an unreadable LCD language?
No. Use the separate language-selection procedure.
Does the administrator password change?
Yes. Canon says All data restores it to the default. Do not confuse that printer administrator credential with your router’s Wi-Fi password.
Should I reset everything for a Wi-Fi problem?
Not automatically. If a network reset is justified, the LAN settings option is narrower. Check the connection first and plan to reconnect afterwards.
