A little preparation

Before you start

  • Have the information needed to reconnect afterwards. This removes the printer’s network connection information; it is not a password-recovery tool.
  • Use this when you deliberately want to rebuild the network configuration. A paper, cartridge or scanner fault requires its own remedy.

Check the consequence before proceeding

Canon states that LAN initialization deletes all printer network connection information. Printing, scanning and faxing over that connection will no longer work until network setup is repeated.

This is narrower than All data. Select LAN settings specifically; do not use the factory-reset option simply because it is beside it in the menu.

Step 1:Select the LAN reset

  1. With the printer on and idle, press Setup.
  2. Use left/right to select Device settings and press OK.
  3. Select Reset setting and press OK.
  4. Select LAN settings and press OK.
  5. Read the confirmation. Select Yes and press OK if you intend to delete the network configuration.
  6. Wait for completion before continuing.

The source suggests a restart after completion. Do not interrupt the reset or unplug the printer while it is operating; reconnecting still requires the actual setup process.

Step 2:Set up and verify the intended connection

  1. Follow the related Wi-Fi setup guide for the router connection, or the separate Wireless Direct guide if that is the connection you intend.
  2. Reconnect the sending computer or phone through the selected method and choose the correct printer.
  3. Send a small print or scan task and confirm its completed result. If necessary, print LAN details to inspect the current connection.

The expected immediate result of a network reset is lost prior network configuration, not an automatically repaired connection.

Questions & troubleshooting

Does this reset every printer setting?

No. LAN settings is the network-specific reset option. All data is the broader separate choice.

Why did the printer go offline afterwards?

The previous network connection was deleted. Complete setup again before expecting network jobs to work.

Can I use this to discover my router password?

No. Obtain the correct network credentials from your own router or network administrator before reconnecting.
