Before you start
- Have a compatible new cartridge ready before removing the old one. Canon USA lists PG-275/CL-276 for TR4720; Canon UK lists PG-575/CL-576 for TR4755i. Do not transfer a number from one regional model to the other.
- Keep fingers off the electrical contacts and nozzle surface. Canon warns against leaving a cartridge removed or using force on the moving holder.
Check the exact model and cartridge
Read the model on your printer and check the applicable Canon supply listing. For the two models here, the US TR4720 listing uses PG-275 black and CL-276 colour, while the UK TR4755i listings use PG-575 black and CL-576 colour. The shared replacement mechanism does not make those cartridges interchangeable.
This is cartridge installation or replacement, not refilling, modifying contacts or overriding an ink warning. A used cartridge can produce an unreliable replacement indication.
Step 1:Open the covers and wait for the holder
- Turn the printer on and open the front cover gently.
- Open the paper output tray, then the paper output cover.
- Wait until the cartridge holder has reached its replacement position and stopped completely. Do not hold it to stop its movement or push it across the rail.
The source shows the holder repositioning and a replacement message. Reaching inside before it stops is not part of the procedure.
Step 2:Replace the required cartridge
- Push down the locking lever of the cartridge being changed until it clicks, then remove the cartridge. For initial installation, open the empty slot’s lever.
- Unpack the new cartridge and gently remove its protective tape without touching the contacts or nozzle.
- Insert the colour cartridge into the left slot, or black into the right slot, straight back until seated. Keep it from striking the holder contacts.
- Raise its locking lever until it clicks and check that the cartridge is securely installed. Repeat for the other cartridge only if it also needs installation or replacement.
Step 3:Close, read the LCD and test
Close the opened covers and output assembly carefully. Read any LCD message and follow its specific remedy; a closed cover alone does not prove the cartridge was recognized.
For the next print, load the paper correctly and reopen the paper output tray, support and extension. Send a small document and allow any normal preparation to finish. The source’s fully closed front view is not the paper-output setup for printing.
If printed lines are misaligned, Canon directs print-head alignment. For missing colour or gaps, first print a nozzle check. Do not perform repeated deep cleanings simply because a cartridge was changed.
Questions & troubleshooting
Which slot holds colour?
Colour goes on the left and black on the right when facing the open printer.
Can I use the cartridge number from the other regional model?
Do not assume so. TR4720 and TR4755i have separate official supply listings even though this mechanical installation procedure is shared.
What if the holder is still moving?
Wait until it stops completely. Never hold it still or move it forcibly.
Does the source’s closed front mean it is ready to print?
The output tray, support and extension must be opened for the print. Check the LCD and actual test output after installation.
