Before you start
- Plain paper and access to your own printer; keep any report or label containing credentials private.
Identify which password is being requested
- Joining a DIRECT-…-HP printer network: use that printer’s Wi-Fi Direct password.
- Opening protected printer settings: use the printer administration credential requested by that page, which may be its label PIN if unchanged.
- Connecting the printer to home Wi-Fi: enter the router network’s password, not a printer PIN.
The recording initially calls the label PIN a Wi-Fi password, then later shows a separate Wi-Fi Direct field. Keep these separate. There is no universal number that this article can supply for your printer.
Step 1:Print the printer’s own information page
Load plain paper print-side up in the rear input tray, with the short edge down. Adjust the width guide without bending the paper and extend the output tray. Check the dedicated Wi-Fi Direct light; if off, press Wi-Fi Direct once.
Press Information to print the printer information page. Find the Wi-Fi Direct network name and its password and use those details when joining that exact DIRECT network. You can also press Wi-Fi Direct and Information together to print the Direct guide.
Keep the report private. The number spoken or shown in another person’s recording is not a replacement for your own printer’s current details.
Step 2:Use a printer PIN only for the matching settings prompt
If the verified printer-local settings page requests a printer PIN, HP says to check the printer’s label, normally inside the cartridge access area. On the source unit a PIN is also shown on the printed information page. Read the field’s label rather than treating every printed code as the Direct password.
Open the access door only as needed to read the label, keep hands away from the moving carriage and close the door afterwards. Do not remove cartridges for this task. If someone changed the administrator credential, a factory label is not proof of the current password; ask the administrator or use HP support rather than repeated guesses.
Check the appropriate connection
For Direct access, confirm the phone/computer joins your printer’s DIRECT network using its own password. No Internet access is expected on that local connection. For protected settings, confirm the intended printer page opens after the requested credential.
A WPS PIN is a separate setup credential; do not substitute it for the router password or assume a network reset recovers a changed administrator password. Return your device to home Wi-Fi after the local task.
