Identify the everyday controls
- Power turns the printer on or off. Resume continues an interrupted job after the cause has been addressed. Cancel stops the current operation.
- Information prints a printer information page. Load paper before requesting a printed report.
- Start Copy Color and Start Copy Black begin the corresponding copy. Repeated quick presses increase the copy count shown on the display.
- Wireless switches the home-network wireless capability on or off. The separate Wi-Fi Direct button controls the printer’s direct connection.
Read the light and display together
A steady blue wireless light with the wireless symbol and signal bars indicates a network connection. An off wireless light means wireless is off. A blinking light can mean connection in progress, WPS, missing signal or a connection problem: check the accompanying symbols rather than treating every blink as setup mode.
The Wi-Fi Direct icon refers to a direct printer-to-device connection. Its presence does not establish that the printer has joined your home router. A blinking Web Services light is a separate condition; pressing Web Services prints its diagnostic page.
Interpret the ink indicators
The left ink icon is the tri-colour cartridge; the right is black. Both are estimates for planning supplies, not measurements of usable ink. An Ink Alert light can also indicate a cartridge problem. Read the specific light combination and message before replacing anything.
Read E and its number before acting
- E1: the job’s paper width does not match the loaded paper.
- E2: the job’s paper length does not match the loaded paper. This is not the cartridge-error definition given in the recording.
- E3: the cartridge carriage has stalled. Use the carriage-obstruction guide rather than treating every E3 as an ordinary paper-feed jam.
- E4: a paper jam. Follow the applicable location-specific instructions.
Choose the next action
Record the complete error and which lights are blinking. If there is no error and the printer is busy, let the job finish or use Cancel. If a job is paused after a paper problem, correct the cause before using Resume.
