Before you start
- Have the document and any needed app available before leaving internet-connected Wi-Fi.
- Load suitable paper and finish initial printer setup.
Choose a local printer connection
Wi-Fi Direct lets a device connect to the printer without joining a router network. The printer does not provide internet service through this connection; download the document and any needed app first.
Step 1:Enable Wi-Fi Direct on the printer
- On Home, open Menu → Settings under Utilities → Network.
- Open Wi-Fi Direct and turn its toggle on.
- Read the displayed Wi-Fi Direct network name and current password. Keep those details private and use your own printer’s values.
Step 2:Connect your device to that printer network
In your phone or computer’s Wi-Fi settings, select the network name matching the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct details and enter its password. Stay on that network for the local job even if the device says there is no internet.
This password is the direct-connection key, not the home router password or the administrator credential for protected printer settings.
Step 3:Select the printer and check a complete print
Open the already available document and use a supported system print route or the HP app. Select this printer, check paper size/type and send a small job. Wait for the finished page and inspect it.
The recording demonstrates the connection and opens an already registered HP app printer. It does not demonstrate a new app registration or a completed print; those outcomes should be checked on your device.
Return to your usual connection
After the job finishes, reconnect the phone or computer to its usual Wi-Fi network if required. If you changed the printer’s ordinary Wi-Fi because of the video, restore the intended connection separately. HP allows up to five direct-connected devices; disconnect one if that limit is reached.
