Before you start
- For app printing/scanning, complete network setup and use the intended printer on the same accessible network. Local copying does not require a phone.
- Use supported laser paper and suitable feeder originals; keep the original glass/cover clean.
Prepare the paper and the right original source
Load supported paper in Tray 2 with the guides against its edges and below the maximum-height mark. Tray 1 is a single-sheet priority slot. Match the selected tray, size and media type to the actual paper; do not use inkjet-only photo paper in a laser printer.
For the flatbed, place the original face down at the rear-left alignment mark and close the lid. For the document feeder, open its output extender, load supported originals print-side up until the loaded message or tone, then fit the guides without bending the pages. Do not feed photographs through the document feeder.
Use one original source at a time. A flatbed original is turned manually; the fdw feeder supports two-sided scanning. HP recommends limiting a batch for multiple two-sided copies to 25 sheets.
Step 1:Choose copy settings on the touchscreen
On Home, choose Copy → Document Copy. Set the number of copies, colour mode and paper source. Choose Sides to match the original and intended output:
- 1→1: single-sided originals become single-sided output.
- 1→2: successive single-sided original pages become the front and back of output sheets.
- 2→1: each side of a two-sided original becomes a separate single-sided output page. It does not shrink both sides onto one face.
- 2→2: retain two-sided originals as two-sided output.
Touch Copy. With glass scanning, follow the next-original/Continue prompt to replace or turn the original, close the cover and continue. Leave originals undisturbed while scanning. When copying finishes, check page count, order and both sides of the actual copies.
Step 2:Print an existing file from the HP app
Finish the related network/device setup first and select this printer in the genuine HP app. Choose Print documents or Print photos, select the desired file and continue to its preview.
Match paper size, source, media type, colour and quality to the loaded sheets. Review the image placement, then select Print. If the printer reports a different tray setup, swipe right from Home → Trays → the intended tray → Modify, set its actual size/type and choose Done. Read the real mismatch rather than leaving an unsuitable generic setting.
Wait for a completed sheet and inspect it. The source prints a sample and discusses its border; it does not establish a universal photo-quality result or a borderless option.
Step 3:Scan the glass original and save the file
In the HP app, select the printer and choose its Scan/Printer Scan task, rather than a phone-camera capture. Choose scanner glass as the input source for this workflow and review scan area, colour and available resolution. Place the original face down at the marked corner and close the lid.
Select Scan, wait for capture, inspect the preview and adjust the crop if needed. Choose Next, then Share or Save. Select the desired file format and destination; on the recorded iPhone this includes Save to Files. Complete the destination’s save action and open the actual saved file to check its content and legibility.
Windows and phone menus are not guaranteed identical. The source shows additional desktop resolution controls; HP specifies up to 1200 dpi for the flatbed and 300 dpi for the feeder, but available software choices depend on the selected source. A resolution number does not mean every scan is four times better. For several pages in one PDF, follow the related dedicated guide.
