A little preparation

Before you start

  • XP-2205 already joined to the router and powered on, and a Windows computer on the same reachable local network. Internet access is needed for the software download.

Step 1:Get software for your exact Windows version

Open Epson’s XP-2205 support page and manually select your Windows version. The source uses epson.sn/2200 → Setup to start Epson’s installer. Download only from Epson and open the installer, checking the publisher before allowing changes.

This guide adds a printer that already has a router connection. If its upper Wi-Fi lamp is not steadily lit, complete the linked Wi-Fi setup first; successful phone setup is one route, not the only route supported by Epson.

Step 2:Select the network printer in Epson’s installer

Review the license and optional data-sharing settings, then continue installation. When the installer finds the printer, select your XP-2205; its driver entry can be called XP-2200 Series. If more than one printer is listed, choose the intended device rather than a nearby unrelated printer.

If the ordinary Windows Add device search found nothing, that alone does not prove the printer is faulty. The companion source finds its printer through Epson’s installer after Windows discovery did not list it.

Step 3:Install the functions you need

Install the printer driver and the scanning components if you want to scan. The source selects Epson ScanSmart and scanner utilities; Epson Scan 2 supplies the scanner interface used in the linked scanning tutorial. Other optional applications, registration and subscription offers are separate decisions.

Step 4:If Windows blocks the manufacturer driver

The source calls a Windows setting “Ready Print.” The relevant setting is Windows protected print mode, which uses Windows Ready Print and prevents conventional third-party printer drivers. Do not disable it merely because the installer mentions it.

If you deliberately need Epson’s driver and choose that tradeoff on a computer you manage, Microsoft documents Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → Printer preferences → Windows protected print mode → Turn Off. This removes that mode’s driver restriction and its additional protection. If an organization controls the setting, contact its administrator.

Step 5:Finish and print a test page

Complete the installer, then search Windows for Printers & scanners and confirm the XP-2200 Series entry is present. Load paper and print a test page or a small document with that printer selected. For scanning, open Epson Scan 2 and check that the same device appears.

The installer finishing confirms installation, not every function. If a test job fails, use the linked connection checks rather than resetting immediately.

A little extra help

Questions & troubleshooting

Do I need to install every optional Epson application?

No. Install the printer and scanning components for the tasks you need; other tools and offers are separate choices.

Why does Windows call my XP-2205 “XP-2200 Series”?

The demonstration uses that driver-family label. It can be the software entry for this exact printer; it does not make every family model’s hardware interchangeable.
