Before you start
- Download any required Epson computer software or Smart Panel app before switching to the printer’s direct network. Have plain paper loaded for the network status sheet.
Step 1:Enable Wi-Fi Direct with the two network buttons
Turn the printer on. Hold Wi-Fi and press Network information—the sheet with an “i”—until the two network lamps flash alternately. Release and wait. When setup finishes, the lower Wi-Fi Direct lamp stays lit.
Use this documented combination rather than trying unrelated button holds. Wi-Fi Direct connects your device to the printer; it is separate from the upper lamp’s router-network connection.
Step 2:Print this printer’s direct-network details
With plain paper loaded and the output tray extended, hold Network information for at least five seconds. Find the Wi-Fi Direct section of the network status sheet and read its SSID and Password. A short press prints a different connection report.
Step 3:Join the printed SSID on your device
Open the computer or phone’s Wi-Fi settings, choose the exact SSID on the sheet and enter its Wi-Fi Direct password. Windows may report “No internet, secured”; this can be normal because the connection reaches the printer rather than supplying internet access.
The source initially encounters a PIN-related connection failure. If your dialog requests a WPS PIN, switch to its password/security-key connection option rather than pasting a different credential into that field. Keep the device connected to the printer network while using it.
Step 4:Select the printer in Windows or Smart Panel
On Windows, open Printers & scanners and choose Add device. Select the matching Epson device; a Show Wi-Fi Direct printers option may appear. If a connection request makes the printer’s network lamps flash together, the source accepts that specific request with one Wi-Fi press. Do not treat every flashing pattern as the same prompt.
On a phone already joined to the direct SSID, open Smart Panel and use its product-selection/add control to select the product already connected to the network. You do not need to erase unrelated saved printers. Epson also documents Wi-Fi-button approval for an Android direct-connection request; Stop rejects it.
Step 5:Try a local job and return to your usual network
Select the printer and try a small locally saved document. Confirm its output before assuming the connection is complete; the source describes setup attempts rather than showing every possible print or scan function.
Afterward, reconnect your computer or phone to its normal network when you need that network’s internet or other devices. Epson documents that the printer can support router Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct, but starting a direct connection can temporarily interrupt its router connection.
Questions & troubleshooting
Does “No internet” mean Wi-Fi Direct failed?
Not by itself. The direct network provides a local connection to the printer, not an internet service.
Should I use the administrator password printed inside the printer?
Use the Wi-Fi Direct Password on the network status sheet for the Wi-Fi connection. Administrator authentication is a different prompt.
Why can I not add another direct-connected device?
The status sheet shows the direct-connection capacity and connected devices. Disconnect an unused device if the direct connection is full.
