Before you start
- Epson Smart Panel installed and connected to your XP-2205. The source uses an iPhone; Android supports Smart Panel, but its file-saving controls differ.
Step 1:Place the original face down
Lift the document cover, put the page face down at the marked scanner-glass corner and close the cover gently. Smooth a creased original as far as practical without forcing the glass or cover.
Step 2:Choose Scan for the correct printer
Open Epson Smart Panel and confirm that the selected product is your XP-2205. Tap Scan. This operates the printer’s scanner; it is different from using the phone camera to photograph a document.
Step 3:Set the document size and file type
Choose the actual page size, the colour/image settings you need and an appropriate resolution. Select PDF for a document or an image format such as JPEG for a photograph, then start Scan.
The source deliberately chooses a low-quality setting and notes creases and show-through. Its result does not establish a universal scanner defect. Check the preview and adjust settings before concluding that the hardware is faulty; higher resolution alone is not a guaranteed cure for text showing through thin paper.
Step 4:Review the scan and optionally add a page
Inspect the scan for a complete page, readable text and correct orientation. To add another page, replace the original—or turn it over—close the cover and use + Scan. Repeat as needed to collect the intended pages; this is manual flatbed scanning.
Step 5:Name and save the file
Choose Next when the pages are ready, enter a useful file name and complete the save operation. The iPhone demonstration opens its Files/iCloud destination chooser. Choose a folder you recognize; the exact device and app version determine the destinations available.
Open the saved PDF from that destination and check every page. Seeing a preview in Smart Panel alone does not prove that a file was saved or shared.
Questions & troubleshooting
Will my scan automatically go to iCloud?
No universal destination is assumed. The source uses an iPhone file chooser, while Android and other configurations can offer different locations. Complete the save and note the selected folder.
Can I scan the reverse side automatically?
The demonstrated method scans one flatbed side at a time. Turn the page yourself and choose + Scan to add the reverse side.
The printer is missing in Smart Panel. What next?
Confirm it is powered on and reachable on the same network, then check the app’s local-device permissions and selected product. Do not erase the printer’s network settings as the first response.
