A little preparation

Before you start

  • Note the LCD error and read its removal instructions. Turn the printer off normally before reaching inside, as the primary source recommends; never press controls with your hand inside.
  • Keep the printer flat and upright throughout. Have room behind it to remove and replace the rear cover without tipping it.

Step 1:Check the rear cover and exposed paper path

  1. At the back, squeeze the two rear-cover tabs and pull the cover out gently. Do not force a different panel.
  2. Remove visible jammed paper from the exposed rear path, pulling slowly so it does not tear. Check the removed cover for paper as well.
  3. Remove accessible torn pieces, then put the rear cover back securely.

Epson’s illustrated procedure begins with this rear access. If paper is trapped beyond the normal opening and will not come free gently, stop instead of probing with a tool.

Step 2:Use the normal scanner-unit opening

  1. Close the document cover if it is open. Raise the control panel, then open the scanner unit until it clicks into its normal supported position.
  2. Look for visible paper in the accessible path and remove it carefully. Keep your hands away from protruding parts.
  3. Leave the white flat cable, translucent film and ink tubes untouched. Do not detach the support, release hidden mechanisms or lift the unit past its normal stop.

Step 3:Close the unit and clear the displayed error

Close the scanner unit carefully using its normal lift-and-lower movement, keeping fingers clear. Epson notes that it closes slowly with some resistance; do not dismantle or force the support to overcome that normal movement.

Check that the rear cover and scanner unit are fully closed. Turn the printer on again if you turned it off. Follow the LCD instruction to clear the jam error; W-01 may ask you to press the displayed control. Do not press a restart control until your hands are outside and all covers are secure.

Step 4:Reload suitable paper and test one page

Load flat, supported paper in the rear feeder, with guides at the edges and below the fill mark. Confirm that size and type match the print job, then print one page to check feeding.

If jams recur, reduce the stack and check for curled sheets, incompatible media or remaining torn paper. If the error remains and no paper is accessible through the documented openings, use Epson support. The recordings show inspection routes, not proof that every reported jam was removed.

A little extra help

Questions & troubleshooting

Can I tilt the printer to check underneath?

Do not tilt, stand upright or invert this ink-filled printer for jam removal. Epson warns that ink can leak. Use the rear cover and normal scanner-unit access.

Should I remove the scanner support to get more room?

No. The documented procedure opens the unit until it clicks and leaves the support attached. Do not follow the supporting video’s experimental support-release sequence.

What if a torn piece cannot be reached?

Stop instead of forcing paper or inserting improvised tools near cables, film and ink tubes. Contact Epson for the inaccessible obstruction.
