A little preparation

Before you start

  • Have the printer installed and available in Canon PRINT on your Windows computer. A working USB or network connection is required; the recording uses Wi-Fi.
  • Remove feeder originals before using the glass. Keep photos, fragile or glued originals out of the feeder.

Step 1:Place the original for the selected scan mode

  1. Open the document cover and put the side to scan face down on the glass.
  2. For a document or a scan with a specified standard page size, align it with the marked corner. Use the actual alignment mark, not the source’s viewpoint-dependent “top right” wording.
  3. For automatic detection of a single small photo, Canon instead specifies a position with at least 1 cm clearance from the glass edges. Match the placement to the scan mode.
  4. Close the cover gently and keep the original still.

The glass and ADF are different input paths. The word Platen in the app means the scanner glass. A photo placed into the document feeder risks an inappropriate feed; scan it on the glass.

Step 2:Select the printer and scan from the glass

  1. Open Canon PRINT on Windows, select the intended printer and choose Scan.
  2. Choose Photo for a photograph or Document for a document. Select Platen/glass, then match the original size and the available resolution and colour options to your task.
  3. Select Scan. Wait for the result preview without lifting the cover.
  4. Review the whole image, not just its centre. Rotate or crop as needed; if an edge is missing, correct placement or the selected scan size and scan again.

Canon’s current app instructions confirm Scan, settings and post-scan editing. The source does not establish one ideal resolution for every photo or document.

Step 3:Save and reopen the result

  1. Choose the output format offered for the task, such as PDF for a document or an image format for a photograph.
  2. Select Save, choose a folder, enter a filename and confirm. Remember the destination.
  3. Open the saved file from that folder and check text, borders and orientation before considering the task complete.

Changing a preview or choosing a format does not by itself create a stored file. Reopening it confirms the final handoff.

For a stack of documents, use the feeder guide

The latter part of the source uses suitable sheet documents in the ADF. They go face up, as the presenter corrects after initially saying face down. Select Document and ADF, fit the guide without squeezing and follow the related ADF-to-PDF guide for complete loading, capacity and save instructions.

For one combined PDF, the related guide also covers Save all pages and the single-file setting. This article’s main procedure is the glass workflow, so you do not need to run a feeder scan to finish it.

A little extra help

Questions & troubleshooting

Must I put every original against the corner?

Standard-size document scans use the alignment mark. Canon’s auto-detected single-photo placement leaves at least 1 cm from the glass edges; choose the placement for your scan mode.

Does this require Wi-Fi specifically?

The recording uses Wi-Fi, but Canon documents both network and USB scanning. Use the connection on which your intended printer is installed.

Does a two-sided ADF setting turn the original automatically?

No. The setting coordinates two manual passes. Reload according to the binding-specific diagram and inspect the resulting pages.

What if the scanner is unavailable?

Check power and the chosen printer. For USB, connect directly to a computer port rather than a hub and try another port when idle. For a network connection, check its status before changing unrelated printer settings.
