Before you start
- Have a clear printed original with visible black and colour content, plus A4 or Letter plain paper. Use the scanner glass for this comparison.
Step 1:Make one correctly positioned local copy
- Turn the printer on. Load plain paper centrally in the front tray, print-side down and portrait orientation. Adjust the guides, register the actual size and Plain paper, then open the output tray, support and extension.
- Press COPY. Place the original face down on the glass, aligned with the marked corner; close the document cover gently.
- Check the copy page size and 100% magnification. Use Menu/Wireless connect to inspect settings if needed, and choose one copy.
- Press Color to include colour content in the comparison. Leave the original and cover undisturbed while the LCD says Scanning. Wait for the finished page.
A blank side facing the glass can produce a blank copy without an ink-system fault. Check placement before diagnosing the result.
Use the result as a clue, not a complete diagnosis
- If the local copy is readable but a computer/phone job is blank, check that document’s preview, page range, selected printer and print settings. Try a different known document before changing network settings.
- If the copy is also blank or faint, check original placement and ink delivery with a nozzle pattern. The local-copy test includes the scanner, so a bad copy alone does not prove clogged nozzles.
- If the standalone nozzle pattern is normal but copies remain blank, investigate the original/copy/scanner path rather than repeatedly cleaning.
Step 2:Check ink and the printer’s own pattern
- Read any LCD error. In Setup → Ink information → Remaining ink, check the cartridge estimates and resolve an empty-ink condition.
- If the problem started with replacement, use the cartridge guide to check the protective tape and locked installation.
- With one A4 or Letter plain sheet and the output path open, select Setup → Maintenance → Nozzle check and press OK.
- Inspect the finished pattern against Canon’s diagrams. Missing lines, horizontal streaks or an absent colour guide the next maintenance step.
The pattern is generated by the printer without scanning your original. It helps separate ink output from the copy input and the computer document.
Take the next step that matches the evidence
For a deficient pattern with sufficient ink, follow the related print-quality guide: ordinary cleaning and pattern comparison twice before Deep Cleaning. If deep cleaning fails, switch off normally, keep the cord connected and wait 24 hours before repeating. Continued failure leads to cartridge replacement and then Canon service, not endless daily cleaning.
For a normal pattern, retain the working ink system and investigate the document or scanning task. If using a computer or phone, confirm the intended printer and connection; use the connection guide only when that connection is actually the problem.
The source does not establish one repair that fixes every blank page. Confirm the completed result of your own next copy or print before considering the issue resolved.
Questions & troubleshooting
Does a good photocopy prove the Wi-Fi is broken?
No. It shows that local copying produced output. The document, print settings, selected queue and connection still need to be distinguished.
Does a blank copy prove the cartridges are clogged?
No. First check which side of the original faces the glass, then compare the printer’s nozzle pattern. Copying also depends on the scanner.
Should I repeatedly deep-clean until it works?
No. Follow the limited Canon sequence in the related quality guide, including ordinary cleaning first and the 24-hour powered-off wait with the cord connected.
