Before you start
- For the app method, the printer already connected to the same home network as your phone and added in Brother Mobile Connect.
- For the LCD method, access to the powered printer; a phone is not needed.
Read the value as an estimate
The HL-L2445DW uses black toner, rather than liquid-ink cartridges. Its toner and drum are separate supplies. You do not need to open the front cover or remove either part to check the displayed supply information.
Step 1:Open your printer in Brother Mobile Connect
Open Brother Mobile Connect on the phone and find the HL-L2445DW entry. Confirm that it is reachable and shows current printer information, rather than an offline entry from an earlier network.
Step 2:Read the black supply indicator
Tap the printer’s entry at the top of the app. In the source, the resulting printer-information screen includes a supply indicator labelled BK for black. Read that indicator as the remaining-toner estimate.
A low-toner warning is a prompt to have the correct replacement available. It is not a reason to reset counters or replace the separate drum without its own indication.
Step 3:Check Parts Life on the LCD instead
Brother’s manual provides an alternative that the source does not find: use up/down to select Machine Info. → OK, then Parts Life → OK. Select Toner and press OK to read it. Select Drum separately if you need its remaining-life estimate.
Use Back to leave the menu. This reads the stored estimate; it does not reset a supply counter.
Questions & troubleshooting
There is no supply information in the phone app.
Confirm the printer is reachable on the phone’s network and that you opened its printer entry. Use the LCD Parts Life method if you only need the estimate.
Should I reset the counter when it looks low?
No. Reading Parts Life and resetting a counter are different actions. Brother says the drum counter is reset only after fitting a new drum.
Can this estimate guarantee that the next page will print?
No. Check the printer’s actual status and the printed output. Remaining-life figures are approximate.
