A little preparation

Before you start

  • Have three or more A4 or Letter plain sheets and enough ink for a readable report. If you need the router-network address, the printer must first be connected to that network.
  • Keep the report private: it can include the printer’s serial number, network names and Wireless Direct password.

Step 1:Prepare plain paper and the output path

  1. Turn the printer on. Load at least three A4 or Letter plain sheets centrally in the front tray, portrait orientation and printable side down.
  2. Set the guides against the edges without bending the stack, keeping it below the guide tabs. Register the actual size and Plain paper on the LCD.
  3. Open the output tray, pull out the output support and open the extension.
  1. Press Setup. Use left/right to select Device settings and press OK.
  2. Select LAN settings and press OK.
  3. Select Print LAN details and press OK.
  4. Wait for the complete report to print before handling it.

Printing the report reads the current configuration. It does not join a router or reset network settings.

Step 3:Choose the correct connection section

  • For the home or office router connection, use section 3-2, Infrastructure. Check Connection at 3-2-5 and the intended SSID at 3-2-6. Read IP Address at 3-2-12.
  • For a device joined directly to the printer’s wireless network, use section 3-3, Wireless Direct/Access Point Mode. Its IPv4 IP Address is at 3-3-9.
  • Default Gateway is a different field. Do not substitute it for the printer’s IP Address.

Copy the address from your own current report. The value in a demonstration belongs to that network and is not a default address for your printer.

Check the result before using the address

For a router-based connection, the report should identify the network you intended and show an active connection. If it is inactive or the expected address is missing, restore the intended connection first, then print a fresh report.

Use the address appropriate to the connection your computer is using. Reading an address does not by itself prove that every computer or app can reach the printer. Keep the report secure after use; avoid sharing an uncensored photograph.

A little extra help

Questions & troubleshooting

Why are there two IP address entries?

Infrastructure and Wireless Direct are different connections. Use the section matching how the computer is connected.

Is the Default Gateway the printer address?

No. Read the field explicitly labelled IP Address in the relevant connection section.

Can I use the address shown in the video?

No. Obtain the current address from your own printer’s report.
