Before you start
- The exact LCD or Status Monitor jam message, so you can choose the correct location.
- Time for the manufacturer’s cooling period before opening the internal area.
Read the jam location first
The source demonstrates access to the front internal area and the main paper tray, with no jammed sheet present. It does not establish that these are the only possible jam locations. Brother also lists separate rear and 2-sided-tray procedures.
Use the applicable branch below for an inside or main-tray jam. If the message names the rear or 2-sided tray, open the corresponding official instructions in the Paper Jams reference instead of searching an unrelated opening.
Step 1:For an inside jam: remove the assembly and paper
- After the 10-minute powered cooling period, open the front cover.
- Remove the combined toner cartridge and drum assembly carefully by its handle.
- Slowly draw out the jammed paper. Avoid tearing it or forcing an inaccessible piece.
- Reinstall the complete assembly and close the front cover.
These are Brother’s inside-jam steps. The recording illustrates access but does not show an actual jam being cleared.
Step 2:For a main-tray jam: remove and reload the tray
- Pull the main paper tray completely out.
- Use both hands to draw the jammed sheet slowly downward and out, as Brother directs.
- Fan and straighten the remaining paper, reload it and adjust the guides to its size.
- Keep the stack below the maximum mark and push the tray fully back in.
This is an alternative location, not a requirement to dismantle every area for every jam.
Step 3:Check that the message clears and paper feeds
Confirm the cover and tray are fully closed and the original jam message clears. Check the next print for normal feeding. If a torn piece remains inaccessible, or the same location still reports a jam, use Brother’s location-specific instructions or support instead of forcing parts or repeating a reset.
Questions & troubleshooting
The message says Jam Rear or a 2-sided-tray jam.
Those are different access paths. Use the matching page under Brother’s Paper Jams reference; the front cover alone is not a complete procedure for those locations.
The video shows no stuck sheet. Is the fault demonstrated as fixed?
No. It shows access points and discusses what to look for. The written removal and cooling instructions are corroborated by Brother’s location-specific manual.
Should I reset the printer to clear the message?
First remove the actual jam using the correct location procedure and close the relevant covers. A reset does not remove trapped paper.
